Teen Boot Camps

Troubled Teen Boot Camps

Juvenile Boot Camps are short-term high intensity camps that help motivate teens. Especially designed to help teens that are struggling in their community, home, or school. These short-term camps range from 30-90 days. Boot camps are modeled after military boot camps instilling the importance of consistency and obedience.

In times of crisis a barrage of emotions often overwhelms parents. The confusion and desperation associated with a troubled teen can be extremely trying.

The length of stay in short term boot camp is generally from 4-6 weeks.

Boot camps are physically and mentally challenging programs, that requires constant supervision. Generally boot camps are in a wilderness type program were they live in military type tents. Boot camps will help strip away old attitudes and change to new attitudes. Boot camps work on a reward/punishment basis.

Where good decisions will be rewarded, with privileges and trust. Bad decisions will be have quick consequences and the teen will be redirected to making better choices. Short term programs help adjust teens attitude.

As alternatives are explored, how do you know what options are available? Of the many forms of intervention, which meet the unique needs of your child?

An individualized approach is required to respond to a child's particular needs.

A knowledgeable Educational consultant can help you find which programs are suited for your child. Programs are researched to find the best fit for your child.

Because Educational consultants have helped a variety of troubled teens, they are aware of a multitude of options and can expeditiously target the best choices.

Educational consultants spend about 20% of their time on the road, visiting therapeutic programs and other educational institutions. Not tied to any institution, Educational consultants can concentrate on what is best for your child and provide you with objective options. After the child has been placed, the Educational consultant follows up on your child to monitor progress. Consultants often work as part of a treatment team in conjunction with therapists and can also serve as supports for parents. Educational Consultants look beyond the current placement and assist in planning for your child's continued progress.

Educational consultants advise on all facets of your child's care. This professional and confidential intervention often brings long-awaited direction to troubled families.

Short-term boot camps change behavior. The structure and goal of these programs is changing the teen's environment. With a new environment change teens get away from attitudes, habits, behaviors and old friends. With the new environment they are able to start developing new attitudes, behaviors and choices. Teens learn that smart choices lead to good rewards. So these types of programs have a positive reinforcement for teens to see trends that help them ultimately succeed. Short boot camps will work if you are in the early intervention stages.

The mission of the ANASAZI teen wilderness program is to prepare parents and children to turn their hearts to one another and walk in harmony in the wilderness of the world.

The founders of ANASAZI believe the youth who come to "walk the trail" are not objects to be fixed or changed. They are, however, young people with hopes, dreams, struggles and needs who have made at-risk choices. ANASAZI wilderness program offers them an opportunity to turn and walk forward again. ANASAZI is non-punitive and staff respect the agency of each Young Walker.

ANASAZI is not a behavioral modification program, "boot camp" or a lock down program for adolescents. There are no point or level systems or withholding of food or privileges, nor do the children have to "earn privileges." ANASAZI is designed to invite parents and children to experience a "change of heart."

Treatment at ANASAZI addresses the issues of disturbances of mood and behavior, substance abuse and personality and family functioning. The focus is on making correct choices, resolving conflicts and strengthening family relationships. Treatment is conducted individually and in group settings. No confrontive therapy, manipulation or behavioral modification techniques are employed.

The wilderness is not a harsh place to break youth down, but rather a safe place, free from distractions to learn, ponder one's life, discover God and family, build relationships of trust and prepare to begin anew. The trail is difficult, yet, caring staff encourage, teach and do all they can to help each young person progress.

ANASAZI accepts young people 12-17 years of age who are physically and emotionally able to handle the rigors of the trail and whose parents are willing to participate in their child's walking.

Those best served by ANASAZI are usually experiencing one or more of the following:
-Conflict with Family
-Depression
-Suicide Ideation
-Substance Abuse
-Oppositional Behavior
-School Failure
-Eating Disorders
-ADD & ADHD

Welcome to SageWalk, the School for Troubled Teen Boys and Girls
SageWalk, The Wilderness School for troubled teen students, is a therapeutic wilderness program that serves as an intense intervention program for troubled teens between the ages of 13 and 17 who may be experiencing emotional, academic, and/or behavioral problems.

SageWalk provides help for troubled teens and help for troubled children by bringing students and instructors together to live in a nature-based setting that provides an opportunity to learn about the natural environment, wilderness-oriented survival techniques, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, and accepting responsibility for actions and consequences.

During this program for troubled teens and children, students participate in a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to, group and individual therapy, academic studies, primitive camping skills, navigation and orienteering skills, service projects, goal setting workshops, food preparation, backpacking, and journal writing.

SageWalk is designed to engage the students as quickly as possible so they receive the maximum benefit from their participation in the program. Therefore, SageWalk is genuine help for troubled children and help for troubled teens. It is not a boot camp nor is it a typical troubled-teen wilderness camp, and does not subscribe to a philosophy of deprivation. Instead, we provide the student with all essential gear and equipment upon enrollment. As a student progresses in the program, they have the opportunity to "offer up" their comforts and replace them with their newly developed skills. The result is a faster, more impactive experience that allows each student to focus on "why they are at SageWalk" rather than "being at SageWalk."
